3 UMPIRE SYSTEM WHY?

 Seems the game has got quicker, hitting harder, severe contact, every contest has a bigger result on the game with the modern game of zoning and pressing.
 With Southern Umpires having more Field Umpires Listed than ever before enables the coach Pete Marshall to spread the numbers over the games, keep everyone running.
 Has encouraged the older more experienced umpires to stay in the game longer with their better decision making assisting with numbers and imparting their wealth of football experience onto the new comers.
 Enables the coaches to fast track the new umpires without being overawed in the football environment almost a mentor program.
 Most importantly it puts the Field Umpire in the best position to make the correct decision whether its paying the free kick or simply calling playing on allowing the contest without paying perhaps an unwarranted free kick
 It encourages the players to play the the ball No Off the Ball nasty stuff, taking players out unfairly, holding before the contest, blocking or illegally tagging players.
 Having an extra pair of eyes allows missed free kicks to be picked up as sometimes umpires do miss free kicks, blocked by players, wrong side of contest or simply an error of judgement. Without over umpiring and end zone umpire can pick up the obvious free kick TeamWork is paramount.

This year 68 Umpires have officiated in the Firsts including 18 first timers, 2 female umpires, 17 lads under the age of 20.

One interesting statistic is that in the 3 Ump system less free kicks are generally played as the game seems to flow better.
2 games in the past fortnight results effecting Finals Position where the stakes were high reads interesting facts.
Rye VS Rosebud 28 free kicks only paid.
Seaford VS Karingal 26 free kicks only paid.

In summary the clubs have embrace the concept and the game has improved under this structure. All MPNFL finals will have the Three Ump System.

Looking forward to the spring weather and a terrific exciting conclusion to our season enjoy the footy, Pete Marshall ( SUA Field Umpires Coach)
